Zero Motorcycles – mean green electric moto!
Finally a electric bike (4 flavors), that looks as aggressive as it performs. Combination that was good enough to make it into Jay Leno’s garage.

A product of passion for fun on 2 wheels and environmental consciousness, from mind of Neil Saiki – a Californian aeronautical engineer, Zero now lays claim to making fastest, cleanest and lightest electric motobikes. The best part is they are all made here in the US of A!
The battery pack
Zero uses second-generation lithium ion cells that feature an intelligent monitoring system with active re-balancing that constantly tracks the voltage and temperature of each and every cell to prevent run away thermal build up (remember the nasty laptop battery fires!).
The battery pack, also, does not contain toxic metals such as cobalt, nickel, lead or mercury. They are so clean, they are rated for land-fill disposal in the US, Canada and Europe. They are also completely recyclable.
The result is the highest power-to-weight ratio available in any electric vehicle.

Charger
Designed to be plugged into any standard 110 or 220 volt outlet and optimized to be safe to be left plugged in for hours, days, even months.
Motor
Permanent magnet electric motor is capable of delivering over 30 horsepower and requires almost no maintenance.
The motor uses one-tenth the steel and half the copper of competing DC motors, and delivers the best power-to-size ratio in the industry.

Frame
Frames are made using 100% aircraft grade aluminum. Developed using cutting edge computer aided design software, the entire Zero X frame weighs only 18 pounds and the Zero S weighs only 29 pounds.
Welded by the highly skilled aluminum welders, the entire frame is heat treated to restore the strength around the weld areas. The treatment process involves heating the frame in a furnace and then submerging it in a solution-bath to quench the hot metal.
Finally, critical areas such as pivots, brake mounts, and chain-guide mounts are re-milled for absolute accuracy.
Suspension
Designed to maintain traction and control in aggressive situations when responsive handling is required, each motorcycle includes a custom-built, adjustable front fork and rigid double diamond rear swingarm. The rear wheel stays planted using a coil rear shock with a fully adjustable spring preload and easily tuned damping.

Gravy
The off road electric motorcycles feature the ability to customize both the speed and acceleration. With a flip of the switch one can limit the top speed to a “motorized bicycle” legal 30mph. Another switch sets the acceleration from a beginner friendly “easy” mode to a highly aggressive “sport” mode.
Here are videos we found on youtube pitting Zero against the Yamaha 250 YZ (can safely skip 1.50 of the second video).
