New S1000RR – a straight four super bike from BMW

The BMW S1000RR is a super bike manufactured by BMW Motorrad to compete in the 2009 Superbike World Championship. It was introduced in Munich on 16 April 2008, and is powered by a 999 cc (61.0 cu in) inline-4 engine redlined at 14,200 rpm.

BMW will only manufacture 1,000 production models in 2009 to satisfy World Superbike homologation requirements, but will expand production in 2010. It features traction control, has an overall wet weight (motorcycle) of 204 kg (450 lb) and produces 193 hp (144 kW). The S1000RR may not be for sale in some dealerships until early 2010.

On 26 June 2008, Spanish rider RubĂ©n Xaus signed to ride the bike for the factory BMW Motorrad team. On 25 September 2008, Australian former double Superbike World Champion Troy Corser signed to complete the team’s two-rider lineup for 2009.

As of July 2009, in the 2009 Superbike World Championship season, the highest race result achieved by Corser is 5th place in the Czech Republic, and Xaus achieved 7th place in Italy.

The production model:-

The new BMW S 1000 RR is now making its world debut. This true milestone in the world of sports machine combines engine output of 142 kW (193 hp) with overall weight of just 204 kg (450 lb) including fuel (183 kg/403.5 lb dry weight, 206.5 kg/455.3 lb overall with Race ABS).

Changes to the Production model from the Race model.

1. 193 horses instead of 200
2. Tweaks to front and rear suspension
3. Tires, of course and brakes are not Brembo
4. 92 lbs heavier.
